What's OWindsor Castle Stakes Tips for Royal Ascot?

We've been studying the cards, form, stats, trends and more for the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot, and here's our thoughts ahead of the race:

This listed sprint contest is always hugely competitive and only one of the last six renewals has been won by the favourite.

Plenty of trainers will be targeting this race with only Wesley Ward and Aidan O’Brien having won more than one renewal of this contest in the last 12 years. The former has a strong hand once again, and Ruthin is likely to begin this race as the favourite. She was victorious at Keeneland in late April and will surely improve on just her second start.

Hugo Palmer will be hoping that his talented colt Dig Two can continue to progress, and he has won his two previous outings with his RPR numbers improving with each appearance. Tipperary Sunset is also extremely progressive and the savvy John Quinn barn are likely to fancy their chances in this event.

However, Aidan O’Brien could continue his excellent record in this event and his talented 2-year old Amalfi Coast could build on his recent success at Naas in a 2-year old maiden.

To be certain of getting our final thoughts on every Royal Ascot race, make sure you have joined the FRT VIP Club.

On the day:

CHIPOTLE 5.35 – Ascot (25/1 each way) – Was the decisive winner of the Brocklesby and took a big step forward when following up in 4-runner 5f Ascot contest, clocking good time in the process. The soft ground was likely a factor in his poor National Stakes run last time out, and today’s will suit him a lot better.

A bad race for fillies, no winners in the last 12 years and only two have been placed in that time from 41 runners. Favourites also tend to struggle too and there have been some big priced winners over the years.

The Wesley Ward raider SUNSHINE CITY is the current favourite with CHIEF LITTLE HAWK, SHERIFF BIANCO and TACTICAL all at the top of the market.

Keith's final choice

16:10 CHIEF LITTLE HAWK 4/1 – Blazed the trail when making all Navan on sole start. Should improve dramatically for that run and will be difficult to catch in this.

How it fared

CHIEF LITTLE HAWK jumped out pretty swiftly but was unable to maintain the pace and ended up a well-beaten seventh of eighteeen.

To be certain of getting Keith's final thoughts on every Royal Ascot race, make sure you have joined the FRT VIP Club.

This is what Keith said about the 2019 Windsor Castle Stakes:

SOUTHERN HILLS 8/1 each way – Travelled strongly at Navan last time and looked to have the race in the bag before getting headed in the closing strides. A similar run will see him involved here.
What our members tipped in the 2019 Windsor Castle Stakes

Each day we ask our members to select their Pick 6, their NAP for each race of the day.  We then collate all the picks, and present the top selections to our VIP members.  Our member's selections for the Windsor Castle Stakes:

Frankie Dettori on RUTHIN gets the lion's share of the selections and should claim the Windsor Castle Stakes here from your Pick 6 selections.

Amalfi Coast, Armor and Dig Two all battle it out for joint next best with 9.6%.  Chipotle the only other worthy mention.

The final race of our Pick 6 for today and hopefully the only one we’re waiting for – which will be Mighty Gurka who just stands out on a smidge over 19% of your selections. Chief Little Hawk breathing down the neck of Mighty Gurka though with 18.8%.
Sunshine City is one to note on 17% for you fans of Frankie!

We’ll be in heaven if Temple of Heaven comes in for the final race of the day and plenty of support for it. Southern Hills and Platinum Star are miles behind in the selections.

Our Verdict:
Keith made the right choice in this race, plumping for Southern Hills in his each-way shout. Our members, however, saw things differently with Temple of Heaven – which for them was the wrong shout, but as a joint-favourite, you couldn’t blame them for their selection. Southern Hills was chased along by Platinum Star who just pipped Glasvegas for second position in this race of 21 runners.
