Tolworth Hurdle Tips
When is The Tolworth Hurdle 2021?
The Unibet Tolworth Hurdle takes place at the Tolworth Hurdle Day meeting at Sandown Park Racecourse in the first week of January.
For 2021, the race is on Saturday 2nd January getting underway at 2.25pm
The race was established in 1976, this Grade 1 race is open to novices aged 4 years and older, and run over a distance of two miles.
Many fine horses have won the Tolworth Hurdle including Desert Orchid in 1984, Finians Oscar in 2017 and Summerville Boy in 2018, all going on to fantastic careers. Colin Tizzard has enjoyed good success in recent years with three winners in the last four races. Nicky Henderson holds the record for leading trainer though with five winners.

Tolworth Hurdle Tips
2 days to go and the Tolworth Hurdle is down to 8 runners due to the forecast heavy going. I may end up with egg on my face but I am eliminating GALICE MACOLO from calculations due to the poor record of mares in the race. Of the rest only SMURPHI ENKI meets the DSLR statistic and he makes my shortlist along with last time out winners ADRIMEL and METIER.
Keith's Tip on Raceday
METIER 14:25 Sandown 11/8 – Comfortable winner on both his hurdle starts and is expected to make all. With ADRIMEL now a non runner the best of the rest is GRACE MACALO but this race is not a happy hunting ground for mares and she was eliminated on that basis.
How did we do?
METIER went off a weak favourite having drifted to 7/4 but there was no cause for concern. Held up in close 5th on the inside rail, METIER made headway on bit before 2 out and was leading before last, he was soon clear, drawing right away on the run-in, impressive.
