It was restricted to three-year-old fillies in 1950. This race generally attracts top-class runners some of which will have run in the Oaks at Epsom.

What's Our Ribblesdale Stakes Tips for Royal Ascot?

We've been studying the cards, form, stats, trends and more for the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot, and here's our thoughts ahead of the race:

The Ribblesdale is a race which has been kind to those at the top of the market. Five of the last six winners have started the race in the top two of betting and Aidan O’Brien’s Santa Barbara is this year’s jolly.
He is yet to race beyond 1mile, although he didn’t look out of place in the 1,000 Guineas at the beginning of May.

Teona is an interesting candidate and although she got upset in the stalls and started slowly in the Musidora at York, she still finished strongly over the 10f.

However, Roger Varian’s Zeyaadah looks the one to stick with in 2021. She ran second in a fillies listed at Chester at the beginning of May, but was unable to improve her position after getting stuck on the heels of a rival.
With a clearer run, she could be a force to be reckoned with.

To be certain of getting our final thoughts on every Royal Ascot race, make sure you have joined the FRT VIP Club.

On the day:

ESHAADA 3.40 – Ascot (6/1) – There are plenty of progressive fillies in with a chance, not least Roger Varian's unbeaten ESHAADA, who improved in a big way when winning a listed contest at Newbury on reappearance and with the promise of better to come, can bring up an impressive hat-trick.

John Gosden has trained two of the last three winners of the Ribblesdale and he has a strong hand again this year with two of the market leaders FRANKLY DARLING and MISS YODA, both of them have already scored this season. Jockey bookings suggest that FRANKLY DARLING a daughter of Frankel is their more favoured runner but MISS YODA who took a listed race last time is no back number. The other leading contenders are TREFOIL and BORN WITH PRIDE.

Keith's final choice

14:25 MISS YODA 6/1 each way – This race looks to be between the Gosden pair and while FRANKLY DARLING is the talking horse (see The Notebook) the value lies with Lingfield Oaks Trial winner MISS YODA who brings decent form to the table.

How it fared

MISS YODA faded in the closing stages and the winner was… You have guessed it FRANKLY DARLING who was a Notebook horse.

To be certain of getting Keith's final thoughts on every Royal Ascot race, make sure you have joined the FRT VIP Club.

This is what Keith said about the 2019 Ribblesdale Stakes:

Leading Contenders
MEHDAAYIH 4/1 – Pretty impressive winning the Cheshire Oaks at Chester. Would prefer the going on the softer side of good so any rain will be in her favour.
PINK DOGWOOD 4/1 – Not extended when just doing enough to win at Navan under a hands and heels ride by Ryan Moore. Another that may be better with juice in the ground.
ANAPURNA 8/1 – Won the Oaks trial at Lingfield very comfortably under Frankie Detorri. Won’t want conditions to be too fast.
ENTITLE 10/1 – Kept on well when just failing in the Musidora at York, on that evidence this extra two furlongs will be ideal.

With the line up of the race set to change depending on the result of the Oaks, it is hard to be confident about who will be racing let alone who will win. ENTITLE 10/1 each way is my tentative selection.

Entitle didn’t take part in this race, instead, Keith went for an each way selection of SHAMBOLIC at 25/1.

What our members tipped in the Ribblesdale Stakes

Each day we ask our members to select their Pick 6, their NAP for each race of the day.  We then collate all the picks, and present the top selections to our VIP members.  Here's how our member's voted for the Ribblesdale Stakes:

Race Three | 3:40pm – Ribblesdale Stakes

Almost neck and neck here but it's NOON STAR that just pips ESHAADA with 25.9% of your selections.  ESHAADA next best with 24.1%.
DUBAI FOUNTAIN one not to forget for the Johnston yard and has 20.7% of the votes.  Currently in to 13/2 from 10/1 overnight.

Huge support again for Frankie and Frankly Darling looks to be the NAP of the day with 52% of the selections. Miss Yoda getting the rest of the votes with a decent 18% of the selections.

Passion and Trefoil worth a mention of the best of the rest.

Last years winning duo, AP O Brien and Ryan Moore take the chunk of the picks for Fleeting with just short of 30%.  Queen Power takes 18% and Frankelina receives just short of 17%

Our Verdict

Shambolic by name, Shambolic sums up the performance, finishing 8th in a field of 11 runners. Star Catcher even turned over the our members and bookies favourite Fleeting by over a length. The other horses our members shortlisted in our Pick 6 competition also finished out of the winning spots, with Queen Power in 4th and Frankellina in 6th place.
