What's Our Britannia Stakes Tips for Royal Ascot?

We've been studying the cards, form, stats, trends and more for the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot, and here's our thoughts ahead of the race:

This mile contest is a race which has produced some big price winners over the years and last year’s winning trainer Roger Varian has another exciting prospect in the shape of Raadobarg.
This talented colt has won three of his first four starts and his numbers have improved with each appearance. He won the Silver Bowl Handicap at Haydock by just over a length and further improvement could see him go extremely close.

George Boughey’s Air to Air has also looked hugely promising and won a couple of handicaps in convincing fashion, although this a big step up.

John Gosden’s Mithras has form on good ground and although he didn’t fully fire in the Heron Stakes at Sandown recently, his previous form must be taken into account.

At a bigger price, Dermot Weld’s Probe may be worth looking at. He’s now won two on the bounce and has triumphed by an accumulative nine lengths. There is definitely further improvement to come.

To be certain of getting our final thoughts on every Royal Ascot race, make sure you have joined the FRT VIP Club.

On the day:

RAADOBARG 5.00 – Ascot (15/2 each way) – Unbeaten this season and still looked to have loads in hand off this mark when bolting up at Haydock 26 days ago. More to come, so looks an obvious player.

This is an opportunity to pick up a decent priced winner as no horse has returned a price of under 6/1 in the last twelve years, eight of them have been between 10/1 and 28/1.

Eleven of the last twelve winners had an official rating between 87 and 96 which is a pretty narrow band in a competitive handicap.

24 runners are due to go to post and their odds currently range from 8/1 to 33/1 which just about leaves everything in the mix. FINEST SOUND is the current market leader an others worth noting include VERBOTEN, CHEROKEE TRAIL, DUBAI MIRAGE and ENEMY. I expect my final selection to come from these 4.

Keith's final choice

16:10 ENEMY 13/2 each way – I am torn between two in this race, FINEST SOUND went into the Notebook when winning last time. ENEMY, however, I put up as one of my each way's of the meeting in the bonus video and I am convinced that this race will be set up for him as he needs to swoop late on the back of a strong pace. I will be combining the pair in a forecast.

How it fared

ENEMY 4TH – Read the script perfectly and swooped late as expected to grab us fourth and some place money. FINEST SOUND was second.

To be certain of getting Keith's final thoughts on every Royal Ascot race, make sure you have joined the FRT VIP Club.

There were no antepost tips, the on the day tip was VELORIUM as a 9/1 each way selection.

What our members tipped in the Britannia Stakes

Each day we ask our members to select their Pick 6, their NAP for each race of the day.  We then collate all the picks, and present the top selections to our VIP members.  Our Members picked the following for the Britannia Stakes:

.

Race Five | 5:00pm – Britannia Stakes

Fairly wide open this but it's MITHRAS that pips the rest with Frankie Dettori on board and bang on 20% of your selections.
AIR TO AIR and RAADOBARG tie on 11.1% for next best.
BEAUTIFUL BERTIE worth a mention at 33/1 for possible place money and just under 10% of your selections.

Quite a bit of early love for Dubai Mirage but that’s faded now with Finest Sound taking the lead on 21% of the selections. One of the four John Gosden trained horses in the race gets the nod for next best and that’s in the shape of Enemy with 13.6% of your selections.

Real mixed bag of selections here for the Britannia Handicap, but it’s Motafaawit that leads the pack.  Migration and King Ademar bringing up the rear.

Royal Ascot Britannia Stakes Results

2 Liffey River 20/1
3 Quintillus 28/1
4 Dubai Honour 28/1

1 Biometric 28/1
2 Turgenev 7/2
3 Fanaar 50/1
4 Awe 14/1
28 ran, 1¼l, 2l, 2¼l

As you would expect from a field of 28 runners, the race is wide open and the outsiders having every opportunity to hit the winning spots, and the Britannia Handicap did not buck that trend with 28/1 shot Biometric winning the race. Neither Keith or our members selections got a look in the top four spots, with Velorium crossing the line in 26th position and member’s choice Motafaawit only doing marginally better in 16th place.
