This week’s Notebook includes a live contender for the Ballymore Novice Hurdle at Cheltenham.
It has been a while since the last copy of Keith's Notebook but in that time we have had 12 runners yielding 4 winners and 1 placed horse and a BOG profit of 15.88 points (at 1 pt win or 0.5pts e/w as advised)
The biggest priced winner was on 14th December REDFORD ROAD at 14/1 (SP)
Here are the notes for the selection
REDFORD ROAD 14:30 Cheltenham 12/1 each way – [Was running under a penalty when staying on really well for second over 2m 5f at Ascot. Finished 12 lengths ahead of the third home. Is the type to make his mark in Listed Company.] Eight pounds better off with VALTOR who beat him last time. Should go well again in a race where very few can be ruled out.
Since July 2019, Keith's Notebook has thrown up 64 selections, of which 28 have won, leading to a BOG profit of 42.47 points. You can see the full results, including every previous Notebook horse here.
Here are the Notebook horses which have caught Keith's eye recently.
HAUL US IN – Second of twelve in a handicap hurdle at Ayr over 3m ½f on soft. Led for much of the race before being headed at the last, soon rallied and again disputed the lead, edged left which probably cost him the race. Only beaten by 3/4 length and was a full 29 clear of the third place. Will land another handicap of this type before the handicapper takes a firm hold but needs it to be a true stamina test on very soft to heavy going.
ENVOI ALLEN – First of six in a Novice Hurdle over 2m 4f on good to yielding at Naas. Always in contention and took control of the race after 2 from home always travelling the best, pushed clear run-in, easily. Last years Champion Bumper winner cemented his position at the head of the betting market for the Ballymore Novice hurdle with his second Grade 1 hurdle win. Nothing as yet appeared that will give him a run for the money.
ASTERION FORLONGE – Easy maiden hurdle winner (2m) at Naas beating twenty rivals. Always prominent despite jumping right at times. Took over the lead three from home and proceeded to dominate, stayed on strongly, very easily by 10 lengths with plenty more in the tank. This gorgeous grey has Cheltenham written all over him and trainer Willie Mullins thinks so too and it will be no surprise if he turns up in the Supreme Novices hurdle, currently he is 33/1 for that race but it is far too early for ante post betting.
HIGHWAY ONE O TWO – A pretty neat demolition job when making all at Plumpton was 4 lengths clear after 3 out and well in command when making a mistake at the last. Won by 11 lengths unchallenged. That is now two from two over hurdles and he should continue in the same vein it won't be long before we see him in a Listed or Graded race.
As always, VIP club members will be notified when any of the 15 horses currently in Keith's notebook are due to run, and Keith's updated thoughts on their chances – including whether they're worthy of a bet or not!
We are now in that quiet post Christmas spell but on Saturday there is some tasty looking racing from Kempton, Fairyhouse, Warwick and Punchestown which may give us a few Cheltenham Festival pointers.
Cheers,
Mel
