When is The Long Walk Hurdle 2020?

The Marsh Hurdle, registered as the Long Walk Hurdle was established in 1965.  In 1990 it was given Grade 1 status and is seen as a trial for the World Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival, with no less than 6 winners winning both races.

In 2020 it is scheduled to run on Saturday 19th December, getting underway at 2.25 pm.

The Long Walk Hurdle is run over a distance of about 3 miles and 1 furlong and is open to horses aged four years and older.

Last year's winner The World's End received £56950 running the race in 6 mins and 20.44 seconds.

Records

Most successful horse has won this race four times.  Baracouda won consecutively from 2000-2004.

Leading Trainer was Francois Doumen who trained Baracouda hence having four wins.

Leading Jockey is Richard Johnson, who has also won four times, but was not the jockey on Barracouda, his wins come from Anzum in 1999, Mighty Man in 2006 and twice winning on Reve di Sivola in 2012/13.

Long Walk Hurdle Tips

The Long Walk Hurdle this year is essentially a rematch between THYME HILL and PAISLEY PARK who finished first and second at Newbury 3 weeks ago, can THYME HILL emerge victorious again or will PAISLEY PARK get revenge? The amazing MAIN FACT, who has won his last 9 races mixing hurdling with flat racing, looks best of the rest.

Keith's Tip on Raceday

PAISLEY PARK 2.25 Ascot 2/1 – Finished 1½ lengths behind THYME HILL at Newbury on reappearance but is 3lb better off with that rival today and he should come out on top in what will be a thrilling spectacle. MAIN FACT who has amazingly won 9 in a row and the mare ROKSANA are likely to battle it out for third.

How did we do?

PAISLEY PARK (9/4) bounced back with a vengeance, only 3rd going over the last fence he came with a wet sail to nail THYME HILL in the closing stages. ROKSANA was third.

Keith will have a tip for all races shown on ITV which he will send to all VIP members on the morning of the races.  If you are not yet a VIP member, you can join VIP here.
