When is The British Champions Sprint Stakes 2020?

The Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes is the second race of British Champions Day.

The Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes takes place on Saturday 17th October 2020 with the race starting at 1.55pm at Ascot Racecourse

British Champions Sprint Stakes is the first  Group 1 race of the day.  It is a sprint race run over 6 furlongs and is open to horses aged 3 years and older.

The race was originally known as the Diadem Stakes prior to 2011.  It now forms part of the British Champions Day, where it is the sprint category final for the British Champions Series.

This year's prize money is £350,000

The fastest time for the race (since 2011) is The Tin Man, ridden by Tom Queally and trained by James Fanshawe, who in 2016 completed the race in 1:12.15

British Champions Sprint Stakes Tips

The British Champions Sprint Stakes looks wide open this year and a quick peruse of the stats reveals plenty of box tickers. The three I am most sweet on are DREAM OF DREAMS, OXTED and STARMAN who all benifit from a high draw.

How Did We Do?

Keith's message to VIP Members on raceday was:

OXTED 7/1 each way – Progressive and has won his last 3 races including the Group 1 July Cup last time. No reason why he won't handle this softer going and looks great value to at least get placed.

OXTED ran a good race and hit the front with a furlong to go but the stamina sapping going got to him and he faded to a close up fift place, just 1 length behind the winner 16/1 chance GLEN SHIEL who became Hollie Doyle's first Group 1 winner.

Keith will have a tip for all races shown on ITV which he will send to all VIP members on the morning of the races.  If you are not yet a VIP member, please join VIP for free.
