Desert Orchid Chase Tips
When is The Desert Orchid Chase 2020?
The Desert Orchid Chase is one of the two grade 2 races at the Ladbrokes Christmas Festival and takes place on Sunday 27th December and gets underway at 2.30pm.
Named after Desert Orchid who won the King George VI Chase four times between 1986 & 1990. The race was first run in 2006 when Desert Orchid had died, his ashes was scattered before the day's racing.
The Desert Orchid Chase is run over a distance of about 2 miles and is open to novices aged 4 years and older.
With 4 wins, Nicky Henderson is the leading trainer for this race. Barry Geraghty is the current leading Jockey with 3 wins.

With PUT THE KETTLE ON unable to run due to travel restrictions from Ireland the Desert Orchid Chase looks to be at the mercy of ALTIOR who in a glittering career has won 15 of his 16 chases and never been beaten at this trip.

How we got on
A very rare off day for ALTIOR who had to be pushed along before rallying and taking second behine 20/1 winner NUBE NEGRA. ALTIOR was dismounted quickly after the race but post race checks were inconclusive, his trainer Nicky Henderson has since reported a dirty scope and they are waiting for lab results.
