What is a Lucky 15 Bet?

A Lucky 15 is an extremely popular bet to use in horse racing and you’d be forgiven for thinking you’re backing 15 horses to win, but that’s simply not the case. Instead, you’re backing four horses for the win, but placing 15 different bets.

See our Daily Lucky 15 HERE

This means that instead of an accumulator – where you can be let down by one selection – you are covering all possible outcomes and if one does lose, or even a couple let you down, you’ll still see some decent returns.

A simple way of looking at a Lucky 15 is to break it down into the bets you’re placing, and then you should understand it a whole lot better.

So, whatever your stake is, it’s going to be multiplied by 15, as that’s the amount of bets you are putting on. For example, if you put £1 stakes on, your actually betting £15. You can do 50p stakes, or go up to £10, £20, £30 etc. if you are feeling brave.

What are the bets used to make it up to 15 then? Well, it’s pretty simple – here they are:

4 x single bets
6 x doubles
4 x trebles
1 x four-fold

If we look at the single bets to start with, with this, you’re backing each horse to win their respective race, but as a single bet, not an accumulator. For example, you are betting on horse A to win, then as a separate bet, horse B etc. Plenty of bookmakers will double your odds if just one horse wins, so the singles can see you get some cracking value.

As for the six doubles, as you’d expect, this is where you’re backing two of the horses to win. There are six possible combinations of doubles, so that’s why there are six selections. For example, you bet on horse A and B to win their races in one bet, then C and D in another. The other combinations make up the other four doubles.

The four trebles are much like the doubles, but this time, you are backing three horses.

Finally, the four-fold is the bet where you back all of the horses to win, and this is also known as an accumulator. You need them all to win for this bet to be valid, but if they do, you’re laughing as all 15 bets have then come in. It is also worth noting that some bookies will give you a 10% bonus when all four of your horses win, so keep an eye out for that.

It’s a great way to back horses that are favourites and not much value on their own. As mentioned, if you’re let down by a couple there’s still money coming your way.

It’s a great way to bet on your four best horses for the day and even if the odds aren’t great on the singles, your winnings always mount up as you are placing so many bets. Add a couple of 3/1+ shots in there, and you could be laughing.

We hope this explains just what a Lucky 15 is. All you have to remember is you’re placing 15 bets, not betting on 15 horses. Pick your best four and watch your winnings go through the roof if you’ve picked well.
