What is a Trixie bet?

There are a whole host of ways to bet in horse racing and one way that many like to place their bets is through a Trixie. If you don’t know what one of these is, don’t worry, we’re here to explain it to you.

Now, we’ve already spoken about Lucky 15, Yankee and Patent bets and this is much the same. It is similar to the Patent in the fact that you pick three horses and cover a number of multiple bets.

A Trixie is a full cover bet where you pick three horses that you think are going to win, and it then turns those three horses into four bets.

With a Patent, you do the same thing, but it turns it into seven bets and what you have to remember is that a Trixie DOES NOT include singles in your selection.

So, pick your three horses and choose a Trixie bet and this then means you are betting on the three doubles and one treble. Whatever your stake might be, you’ll see that multiplied by four as that’s the amount of bets you’re actually putting on.

For example, say you picked Sprinter Sacre, Cue Card and Big Buck’s all to win their respective races, these are the bets you’re putting on:

Sprinter Sacre and Cue Card to win as a double.

Cue Card and Big Buck’s to win as a double.

Sprinter Sacre and Big Buck’s to win as a double.

All three to win as a treble.

That fact that you don’t put on any single bets means you have to think about your selections as that one horse you fancied at long odds to get your money back should the other two fail is no longer an option. If you want to bet on three horses and get your money back should one win, you’re better off using a Patent bet.

You need at least two winners to gain any sort of profit in this one and if you pick your horses wisely, you will see some big returns.

A Trixie is another popular way to bet, but you must do your research before placing your bets and remember that a Trixie does not include singles.
