The Brown Advisory and Merriebelle Stable Plate Handicap Chase comes from the Cheltenham Festival on Thursday afternoon.
This is a 24-runner two mile and four furlong Grade 3 handicap and it is really competitive. The race has been a bit of a minefield in recent years.
The horse leading the way in the betting right now is Diamond King, who is 5/1 and looking to win at the Cheltenham Festival for the second time after landing the Coral Cup last season.
The horse is just one pound higher than that and has run some good races over fences. He’s been seen just three times this season though and you just know Gordon Elliot has had this race in mind for a long time.
David Pipe can get one ready for a handicap and he has 7/1 shot Starchitect entered in the race.
The horse has put in three decent performances over fences and got it together when winning at Ayr last time. He’s on an unchanged mark from that win and does have some good form in big field races.
The six-year-old will be popular here.
Thomas Crapper is a ten-year-old now but looked to be as good as ever when winning at Newbury last time out.
The horse has run well at the Festival before and is in off a featherweight here for Robin Dickin.
He’s a 9/1 shot and looking to be really interesting.
Bouvreiul goes for Paul Nicholls and was second in the Novice Handicap Chase last season.
He has been saved to run in spring Festival races this season and a mark of 145 is pretty generous. The six-year-old was a good sixth when last seen here back in November and should go well fresh.
Baron Also is a very consistent horse for the Gary Moore team and could be able to go close once more at around 14/1. It’s also 14/1 about Sizing Codelco, Road to Respect and Village Vic.
