The Randox Health Foxhunters’ Open Hunters Chase comes from Aintree on Thursday afternoon. This is the first look at the Grand National fences during the meeting and amateur riders will get a cracking thrill over this two mile and five furlong contest.
On The Fringe is the favourite here at 2/1 and will be looking to bounce back from when fourth at the Festival last time out.
The horse was given quite a bit to do by Jamie Codd on that day but was sensational over these fences last season and should go very close.
He’s perhaps a little short as he may not quite be as good as last year, but course and distance form is vital around here and On The Fringe is a worthy favourite.
You could argue Pacha Du Polder is good value at 4/1 here for Paul Nicholls and Bryony Frost.
He won the Foxhunters’ at Cheltenham by a neck and put in a cracking round of jumping on that day.
The ground looks ideal for the horse here and Frost got a very good tune out of the ten-year-old last time out. He’s sure to go close and could land Nicholls some valuable prize money.
Balnaslow led for much of the way in the Foxhunters’ at Cheltenham last time out and got into a very good rhythm.
He lost a shoe in the race and did well to rally and finish in fifth. Derek O’Connor gets on board the horse and he could be a great site over these National fences.
The jockey is one of the very best in this type of race as well.
Nicholls has another chance with Rebel Rebellion entered and he was disappointing when last seen at Leicester, but has gone well here at Aintree before. You can back the horse at 16/1.
Mr Mercurial, Mendip Express and Poole Master are all around the 20/1 mark and it is 25/1 and over about the remainder.
