The final race on day three of Royal Ascot 2017 is the King George V Stakes. This is a handicap open to three-year-olds and there will be 19 runners heading to post.
It has a very competitive look to it and the favourite in the betting is Atty Persse at 11/2.
This horse won his maiden at Sandown in September last year and got off the mark on handicap debut at the same track.
The horse was then a little disappointing when second at even money at Haydock Park, but that race got a little tactical and you’d expect the horse to be suited by a strongly run race over a longer distance.
He is very interesting and gets a good three-pound claimer on board, which can be huge in these competitive handicaps.
Master Singer can be backed at 8/1 for John Gosden and he is very interesting coming out of maiden races.
The horse won his maiden at Newcastle by a massive 16 lengths last time out and while we don’t know how strong that form is, the performance was very striking and the mark of 96 might not be enough to stop him going close here.
Andrea Atzeni gets on board again and the market will be interesting.
Mark Johnston does well in these types of races and he has Sofia’s Rock in this encounter at 9/1.
This horse was a winner at Leicester a few starts ago and then struggled a little in the Derby Trial at Lingfield.
He was back to winning ways last time out though when bolting up at Haydock on quick ground. He will love these conditions and has to be a big player.
Tartini was fourth at Epsom when last seen and probably has more to offer in these handicaps.
John Gosden’s runner doesn’t have the best draw though and with what we have seen on this straight mile, that wouldn’t be ideal.
You can get 14/1 about Homesman for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore.
He has plenty of experience and was a winner at Curragh last time out. He does have to carry top weight here, but that for good reason and he’s sure to go close.
You can get 16/1 about a whole host of horses and they include Bin Battuta, Drochaid, First Nation, Good Omen, Mister Manduro and Utah.
It’s then 20/1 and over about the rest of the field.
