The Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Amateur Riders’ Handicap Chase is the final race on day three of the Cheltenham Festival and should be another cracking encounter.
This race is held over the Gold Cup distance and is often called the Gold Cup for the Amateur jockeys.
In this races, Jamie Codd is the go too man right now and he has the favourite in Squouateur, who can be backed at 11/2. This horse was sent off as short as 9/4 in the Martin Pipe last season and ran a decent race but wasn’t able to get his head in front.
The horse hasn’t managed to win this season but could be off a decent mark here and with Gordon Elliot in red-hot form the horse is going to be very popular.
Mall Dini won the Pertemps Hurdle on this day last season and has been trained with one day in mind by Patrick Keily.
He has form figures of 33323 in chases this season, so has been consistent but you get the feeling he was never fully tuned up on those occasions. 8/1 is the price about this horse.
Southfield Royale goes for Neil Mulholland here and has the services of James King, who for me is the best amateur rider rom the UK and he can give this horse a good ride.
The seven-year-old is unexposed and was disappointing when last seen but there is every chance he needed that run and a mark of 141 looks generous.
He was fourth in an excellent four miler last season and is value here.
Another Hero can be backed at 14/1 for Jonjo O’Neill and his son.
The horse ran a cracker to finish third at Doncaster last time out and is off the same mark as that here. He’s also off a low weight.
You can get 14/2 about Pendra, who has the services of Derek O’Connor. This horse is trained by Charlie Longsdon and is running for the first time in nearly a year here.
He was 13th in the Grand National last time, so has no stamina issues here and does have a good record fresh. The horse should enjoy good ground as well.
Doctor Harper doesn’t have the best form figures but has been trained with this race in mind and could be popular at around 16/1.
It’s then 16/1 for Potters Legend, Premier Bond and What’s Happening. The rest of the field is at 18/1 and over.
Joe's tip(s) for this race: [mepr-show if=”rule: 75342″] SOUTHFIELD ROYALE is the best bet here and at 14/1, PENDRA could also go well.
