Weights – 9st 1lbs (3lb allowance for fillies)

History

The worlds oldest classic. First run in at Cantley Common Doncaster on 24 September 1776. The race was devised by and got it's name from Anthony St Leger a local politician.

The St Leger is the third and final leg of the English Triple Crown, which begins with the 2000 Guineas and continues with the Derby. It also completes the Fillies' Triple Crown, following on from the 1000 Guineas and the Oaks.

Derby winners rarely compete in the race these days and the last Triple Crown winner was Nijinski in 1970.

Leading Contenders

May change in the event of non runners

LOGICIAN 5/4 – Unbeaten in four runs including the Group 2 St Voltiger at York last time. Is a worthy favourite.

SIR DRAGONET 4/1 – Good winner at Chester in may then an improved run when fifth in the Derby. Never backed thst up dropped back to 1m 2f at the Curragh last time but he finished eased down so things were not right with him. Merits consideration at this trip.

IL PARADISO 7/1 – Has won over 2 miles and was third to STRADIVARIUS in the Lonsdale Cup at York. Contender if there is loads of rain and stamina becomes the key but otherwise this trip could be a little on the sharp side.

SIR RON PRIESTLEY 11/1 – Two of his last three wins have been over 1m 6f including the Group 3 March Stakes at Goodwood.

Conclusion

May change in the event of non runners

LOGICIAN sets a good standard but the progressive runner at decent odds is SIR RON PRIESTLEY 11/1 each way who won going away last time at Goodwood.
