Aintree Review
A somewhat strange week of racing at Aintree with more than a few results that burst a few bubbles with no real excuses. Buveir D’air and Apples Jade both unexpectedly turned over and some might say it’s just as well Altior didn’t turn up to take on the mighty Min in the Melling chase given their recent runnings against the reliable yardstick Politilogue. Other than Min, Kemboy’s absolute demolition of a decent field was pretty impressive but the jury is still out as to whether he can perform to the same level at Kempton, Haydock and Cheltenham all very different tracks.
I was pleased but also somewhat peeved to see some of my old favourites who I sidestepped for Aintree run to the level I always knew they were capable of namely Cadmium, Lostintranslation and If The Cap Fits.
How the FRT Horses Ran
Highlights for us on Thursday came in the shape of Pentland Hills who won and Lady Buttons 2nd, then on fabulous Friday we enjoyed winners from Three Musketeers, Min and Champ, Saturday Ornua was our sole return but advised at 11/2 gave us a small profit on the day due to Kuiper Belt being a non runner in the last.
All of the starting prices of our Aintree winners were shorter than when sent out to
Premium Tips members, the biggest gamble being on Three Musketeers who was advised at 16/1 and backed in to 8/1 at the off (well done to members who told me they got 18/1).

The Grand National is still one of the worlds great sporting spectacles despite the easier fences these days is was outstanding to see Tiger Roll make history and my heart goes out to all connections of Up For Review who sadly met his demise, I am pleased to report that our main pick Vintage Clouds and Jockey Danny Cook, who fell at the first fence, is fit and well and just a bit grass stained. The secondary suggestions Lake View Lad, Jury Duty and Warriors Tale all failed to complete the race either unseating or pulling up, if you backed these as well to the same level e/w stakes the net return would have reduced to 7.83 points still a pretty decent return on investment.
I am still firmly in the
Vintage Clouds camp and the 40/1 on offer for the
2020 Grand National is cracking value.
