Mrs Paddy Power Mares Chase tipsWhen is the Mrs Paddy Power Mares Chase 2023?

Cheltenham Friday 17th March 4.50pm

Mrs Paddy Power Mares Chase (Grade 2)

Distance: 2 miles 4 furlongs

Added last year, the Mrs Paddy Power Mares Chase was included to increase the number of graded Mares only races at the Cheltenham Festival.

Last year saw the favourite beaten by just half a length and we're hoping for another exciting renewal in 2022.

Who are the Mrs Paddy Power Mares Chase Leading Contenders?

Willie Mullins won the inaugural running of this contest twelve months ago and the County Carlow trainer can follow up with CONCERTISTA who has taken really well to chasing and showed a longer trip to be no issue when winning over further than this back in December.

A smart hurdler who won the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle in 2020 she is unbeaten in two outings over the larger obstacles this term, winning at Cork on her chase debut and then doubling up at Limerick over Christmas with a defeat of Darrens Hope, scoring easily.

She’s proven to be versatile with regards to ground and trip, posting wins from two miles to 2m 6f and her Festival record reads 212 having contested in each of the last three seasons. It isn’t hard to make a strong case for her to add another victory to her record in this contest and the Nathaniel mare looks sure to mount a bold bid for a second Cheltenham success.

ANTE-POST SELECTION: CONCERTISTA

ELIMAY – Easy winner of a Listed event at Naas in February over 2 miles.

BENIE DES DIEUX – 3 from 3 in chases, not seen since finishing runner up in the Mares Hurdle at last years festival.

COLREEVY – Pretty lightly raced unbeaten over fences including a Grade 1 at Limerick on boxing day.

What’s our Mrs Paddy Power Mares Chase Tips?

Antepost selections:

With no stats to go on in this brand new race we have to rely on other factors.

The 3 leading contenders above are all trained by Willie Mullins so suffice to say this race revolves round his plans come raceday. Of the 3 I slightly favour COLREEVY.

On The Day:

ELIMAY 16:15 Cheltenham 5/6 – Comes here in good form after easily brushing aside SHATTERED LOVE last time. Stablemate COLREEVY is the only likely danger and they should fight out the finish.

How it went:

A very exciting finish saw our selection pipped at the post by COLREEVY.  They certainnly did fight it out in the finish, but we backd the wrong one!  Though our antepost tip was spot on!
