The final race of the Cheltenham Festival is the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys Handicap Hurdle. It is run over a distance of about two miles and four and a half furlongs, and during the running there are nine hurdles to be jumped.
The event was established in 2009 and is named in honour of Martin Pipe. During his career, Pipe was champion trainer 15 times and his record at the Cheltenham Festival included 34 victories.
This is a race that David Pipe, Martin Pipe’s son would love to win but so far it has eluded him.

We are looking at the runners and forming our shortlist for the Leading Contenders for the Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle
The ‘Get Out Stakes’ and the last race of the Festival; a final chance to land a winner but the race landscape is sure to present a tricky puzzle to solve. One at a big price might be the way to go and RICHMOND LAKE if getting a run in the race could give a good account.
Donald McCain’s charge has shown up really well in four starts over hurdles since joining from the point-to-point sphere, winning twice at Bangor and Sedgefield and finished runner-up behind the well-regarded Jonbon at Haydock in January.
That was a good run behind the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle hopeful where he made that one pull out the stops for the victory, leading over the last and battling well but just unable to hold off the surge of Nicky Henderson’s rising star.
That was over two miles but he had been impressive at Sedgefield the time before when easily justifying long odds-on over this trip and there’s surely more to come. He could be fairly treated off a 132 rating and he can make his presence felt in the finale.

What’s our Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle Tips for 2022?
EGLANTINE DU SEUIL 16:50 Cheltenham 33/1 each way – Winner of the Dawn Run in 2019 and hasn't won since, however, she ran very well off this mark when second over course and distance in December and I suspect the canny Paul Nicholls has been plotting an assault on this race ever since.
Finished 11th.
Here is what Keith wrote about the 2020 Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle.
Twenty seven races in the bag, and it could come down to this final event to decide who is the festival champion trainer, although I expect Willie Mullins will have it sewn up by then.
While Mullins will likely have a runner or two in the race (BLACKBOW is one possible), the horse I am looking forward to lining up on the day is trained by his chief rival.
Gordon Elliott’s COLUMN OF FIRE has a nice progressive profile, having won his maiden at Punchestown in January with some authority, he went on to Leopardstown and finished second on his handicap debut.
