History of the Duke of Cambridge Stakes race at Royal Ascot

Originally the Windsor Forest Stakes, this race was established in 2004 for older fillies and mares as an incentive to keep them racing. In 2014, the race was renamed the Duke of Cambridge Stakes in honour of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.

In its relatively short history, the Duke of Cambridge Stakes has heralded three jockeys who have won the race twice each, Wayne Lordan, Ryan Moore, and William Buick.

The Leading Trainer is Sir Michael Stoute with four wins the most recent being INTEGRAL in 2014 under Ryan Moore.

What’s Keith’s Duke of Cambridge Stakes Tips for Royal Ascot 2020?

With the uncertainty of whether this race will be run due to the current coronavirus situation in the UK, it’s hard to predict selections for the upcoming Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot.

As soon as the picture is clearer, we will post Keith’s tips for the Duke of Cambridge Stakes here.

Who is your Royal Ascot Tipster?

Keith Bond is our resident pro tipster here at FRT Towers. Keith lives and breathes horse racing, having begun his love of horse racing over 40 years ago with a part time job at Catterick Racecourse, as one of three fourteen year-olds looking after two jumps and a hurdle.

Over the years, Keith has been a regular at the northern tracks attending countless race meetings and building up a network of contacts, and a portfolio of systems and strategies.

He was one of the co-founders of Free Racing Tips all the way back in 2008, and his free tips are now backed by more than seventy thousand FRT members every single day.

“Thanks Keith – It’s great to be part of an amazing group of people all after the same thing, passing on tips to beat the bookies”

Colin Parkinson, Harrow.

The FRT community love Keith’s attention to detail, knowledge of past races, and ability to pick horses...

“You offer some great tips, some fantastic outsiders tipped up as well. Most tipsters just put up favourites. Well done and keep up the good work”

John Woolley, Stockport

What did Keith Tip in the 2019 Duke of Cambridge Stakes?

This is what Keith said about the 2019 Duke of Cambridge Stakes:

 Leading Contenders

I CAN FLY 3/1  – Second to ROARING LION in the Queen Elizabeth II on Champions Day in October that was on soft going. Only win this season has come on the All Weather at Dundalk. Struggled in top company since both in Meydan and at Newmarket in the Lochinge. Will be better if there is rain.

VERACIOUS 3/1  – Group 3 winner last season. Shaped up like she needed the run first time out this season in the Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket. Will strip fitter for the run and should be involved.

RAWDAA 7/2  – Was handicapping last season but has stepped up to Class 1 races this year. Gave LAH TI DAH a scare when chasing her home in the Group 2 Middleton at York. Further progression will put her right on the premises in this.

PRETTY BABY 6/1  – Has won back to back Group 3 races over seven furlongs. Goes on any going. Every chance if handling this extra furlong.

Despite the lack of a Group race win the stand out filly in this race for me is RAWDAA 7/2. She is sure to improve again after that fine run behind LAH TI DAH at York.

What our members tipped in the 2019 Duke of Cambridge Stakes

Each day we ask our members to select their Pick 6, their NAP for each race of the day.  We then collate all the picks, and present the top selections to our VIP members.  Here’s how it went for the Duke of Cambridge Stakes 2019:

21% of our members believed I Can Fly can fly during this race and pipped Rawdaa (17.4%) and Pretty Baby (16.3%).

Royal Ascot Duke of Cambridge Stakes Results 2019

1 Move Swiftly 9/1
2 Rawdaa 4/1
3 I Can Fly 7/2F
4 Veracious 8/1
17 ran Distances: nk, 1¾l, 1l
Time: 1m 42.63s (slow by 4.03s)

Our Verdict:

Favourite, I Can Fly stayed at the rear of the field but left itself too much to do come the finish line. Move Swiftly made a claim for the race 7 furlongs out, and fiercely fought for the win in the race from Keith’s tip Rawdaa who came a very close second. I Can Fly finished in third, but was well beaten. Our members favoured I Can Fly, so was left disappointed by Ryan Moore’s ride which could have seen a different outcome, if not seemingly held up at the back for so long.
