History of the Commonwealth Cup race at Royal Ascot

First run in 2015 The Commonwealth Cup was created to fit in with changes to the programme of sprint races across Europe. It’s the only Group 1 race held exclusively for 3 year olds and is run on the same course and distance as the Diamond Jubilee Stakes which was closed to 3 year olds to enter.

There are no stand out Trainers or Jockeys, with such a short history, each winning trainer and jockey have won only once, although the owner, Hamden Al Maktoum has had two successes with Muhaarar in the inaugral 2015 race and Eqtidaar in 2018.

What’s Keith’s Commonwealth Cup Tips for Royal Ascot 2020?

With the uncertainty of whether this race will be run due to the current coronavirus situation in the UK, it’s hard to predict selections for the upcoming Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.

As soon as the picture is clearer, we will post Keith’s tips for the Commonwealth Cup here.

Who is your Royal Ascot Tipster?

Keith Bond is our resident pro tipster here at FRT Towers. Keith lives and breathes horse racing, having begun his love of horse racing over 40 years ago with a part time job at Catterick Racecourse, as one of three fourteen year-olds looking after two jumps and a hurdle.

Over the years, Keith has been a regular at the northern tracks attending countless race meetings and building up a network of contacts, and a portfolio of systems and strategies.

He was one of the co-founders of Free Racing Tips all the way back in 2008, and his free tips are now backed by more than seventy thousand FRT members every single day.

“Thanks Keith – It’s great to be part of an amazing group of people all after the same thing, passing on tips to beat the bookies”

Colin Parkinson, Harrow.

The FRT community love Keith’s attention to detail, knowledge of past races, and ability to pick horses...

“You offer some great tips, some fantastic outsiders tipped up as well. Most tipsters just put up favourites. Well done and keep up the good work”

John Woolley, Stockport

What did Keith Tip in the 2019 Commonwealth Cup?

This is what Keith said about the 2019 Commonwealth Cup:

Leading Contenders
CALYX 6/4 – Unbeaten colt. Quickened clear over course and distance in the Commonwealth Cup Trial. Will be hard to beat.
TEN SOVEREIGNS 4/1 – Dropping back to six furlongs after disappointing over a mile in the 2000 Guineas. A repeat of his win in the Middle Park Stakes last year will put him right there at the finish.
JASH 14/1 – Three wins from four. Only defeat was at the hands of TEN SOVEREIGNS in the Middle Park. Won over seven furlongs on return, may find this trip a bit on the sharp side now.
BULLETIN 14/1 – American raider. Won his first three races including a black type event at Keenland. Turned over at 1/10 last time at Churchill Downs.

Antepost Tip: This race revolves around CALYX 6/4 and he should win with some authority. This horse subsequently didn’t run in the Commonwealth Cup.

On the day Keith tipped TEN SOVEREIGNS to win, however the odds were very short.

What our members tipped in the 2019 Commonwealth Cup

Each day we ask our members to select their Pick 6, their NAP for each race of the day.  We then collate all the picks, and present the top selections to our VIP members.  Here’s how it went for the Commonwealth Cup 2019:

Loads of you are hoping for a  Perfect Ten, with Ten Sovereigns massively leading the pack here with over 50% of the votes.  Jash on 13.5% and another Frankie ride, Advertise are up there too.

Royal Ascot Commonwealth Cup Results 2019

1 Advertise 8/1
2 Forever In Dreams 20/1
3 Hello Youmzain 6/1
9 ran; 1½l, hd

Well the favourite was turned over in this race by 8/1 shot Advertise which was a surprise to Keith, our members and all the other punters who backed Perfect Ten. Finishing 4th, Perfect Ten which set off as evens failed when asked to make the effort by Ryan Moore with 1 furlong to go, and remained in 4th place.
