What's Our Chesham Stakes Tips for Royal Ascot?

We've been studying the cards, form, stats, trends and more for the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot, and here's his thoughts ahead of the race:

This 7f listed contest takes place on the final day of Royal Ascot and it is a race which has favoured the market leaders in recent years.

Each of the last five (and seven of the last ten) winners of this race have started the day in the top three of the betting and Aidan O’Brien’s two-year old Point Lonsdale will be expected to continue that trend. He was superb at the Curragh, streaking clear by five and a half lengths in a decent-looking maiden at the start of June and although he is a little inexperienced, this talented colt could be hard to peg back.

Although his victory may not have been quite as convincing, New Science undoubtedly caught the eye at Yarmouth and Charlie Appleby looks to have another decent prospect on his hands.

Masekela’s victory at Goodwood puts him firmly in the mix, however, Richard Hannon’s Al Shibli looks a smart performer and was only beaten by two previous winners on debut.
He followed it up with a victory at Chester and could be the answer to this tricky puzzle.

To be certain of getting our final thoughts on every Royal Ascot race, make sure you have joined the FRT VIP Club.

On the day:

POINT LONSDALE 2.30 – Ascot (3/2) – Ran out an impressive winner on his first start at Curragh 17 days back, and is brother to the high-class BROOME. Holds good claims with lots more to come.

Key stats: Eleven of the last twelve winners wore no headgear, the other one had on a first-time hood. Draw – Eleven of the last twelve winners were drawn in stalls 1 to 8.

Winners of this race often turn out to be a bit special PINATUBO took it last year. MODERN NEWS, BATTLEGROUND and BRIGHT DEVIL look like the three to concentrate on.

Keith's final choice

MODERN NEWS 15:00 Ascot 100/30 – Kept on well to score over 6 furlongs on debut and should have no worries with this extra furlong. Connections won this last year with Pinatubo. The Irish vibe is that BATTLEGROUND has been laid out for this but my belief is that GOLDEN FLAME is the bigger danger to our selection.

How it fared

MODERN NEWS 5TH – Never really picked up probably more down to the going than the trip. BATTLEGROUND won really well as he pleased.

To be certain of getting Keith's final thoughts on every Royal Ascot race, make sure you have joined the FRT VIP Club.

His selection for this race was PINATUBO which was advised at 7/2 to win.

What our members tipped in the Chesham Stakes

Each day we ask our members to select their Pick 6, their NAP for each race of the day.  We then collate all the picks, and present the top selections to our VIP members.  Here's how our members voted for the Chesham Stakes:

Ryan Moore is in the thick of it here again with just over 30% of the selections on Battleground. Modern News, Golden Flame and First Prophet also in the thick of it, but Modern News edges it with 21.3% of the selections here.

Plenty of support for Ryan Moore’s Lope Y Fernendez in the first race, with over 35% of the selections.  Pinatubo gets 22.9% of the votes, whilst Raul Da Silva’s ride, Highland Chief receives just over 10%

Our Verdict:

Keith was bang on with his selection, winning by over 3 lengths, PINATUBO turned over the favourite Lope Y Fernendez which was favoured by our members too. An impressive finish as it leaves Lope Y Fernendez behind to take the second spot. A good result for Keith, a good result for those who followed him, and a good result for Jamie Doyle and Godolphin too!
