The feature race from day three of York’s Ebor Festival is the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes. This is a Group One five furlong sprint and looks like being one of the races of the season.
We have joint favourite at the top of the market as both Battaash and Lady Aurelia are 6/4 shots to land the spoils in this.
Looking at Lady Aurelia to begin with, she comes here on the back of a stunning victory in the Kings’ Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, where she bolted up by three lengths and looked something quite exceptional on that day.
She made top quality horses look ordinary and it is no surprise to see her at the top of the market for Wesley Ward and Frankie Dettori.
The slight worry might be that she seemed to tail off a bit after Ascot last season and the ground won’t be as quick as she likes, but she has won on soft before and gets weight from all of her rivals here. She’s the one to beat.
Battaash has only really arrived on the scene recently with straight wins this campaign, each one a little more impressive than the last.
Charles Hills often does well with his sprinters and this horse is improving all the time.
He won well at Sandown on two occasions and then beat the likes of Profitable and Marsha pretty comfortably at Goodwood last time out. That was a Group One in all but name and it is going to be really interesting to see how he goes against Lady Aurelia.
The cut in the ground won’t be a problem as this horse seems to go on anything and there is clearly much more to come. He does need to improve again if he is to give weight and a beating to the American filly.
At 9/1 you have Marsha, who has bumped into the top two in the market somewhat this season but continues to run very well.
She’s a course and distance winner here at York and could be a cracking EW bet, especially if you can’t decide between the top two in the market.
Luke Morris is on board this filly, who may have gone under the radar somewhat.
Profitable was a decent second behind Battaash last time out and has actually been runner-up in all three of his races this season. He’s a 12/1 shot and has every chance of hitting the frame again.
Washington DC is at 22/1, with Take Cover and Final Venture around the 33/1 mark. It’s then 50/1 and over about the rest of the field.
Joe’s tip(s) for this race: [mepr-show if=”rule: 20415″]I can’t quite decide between the two at the top of the market and if I’m honest, this wouldn’t be a huge betting race for me, just one to enjoy. I do think MARSHA is rock solid for a place though and should hit the frame again.[/mepr-show] [mepr-active rule=”20415″ ifallowed=”hide”] Joe’s tips are only available to Gold members – You can apply for Gold membership here [/mepr-active]
