Saturday 19th September, 2.15pm, Newbury
The feature race coming from Newbury tomorrow is the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes, which is a Group 2 held over a distance of six furlongs.
This race will take place on pretty soft ground and we’ll see just six two-year-olds go to post. However, those six juveniles are all talented and it should be a good encounter.
It looks as though the Godolphin team have a good chance here with two entries and if you believe the betting, Ribchester is the leading contender for the boys in blue as he’s a 15/8 shot and has run two promising races so far.
Both of those have seen the horse come second and he wasn’t too far behind Ajaya in the Gimcrack last time out.
You’d expect this horse to be getting better with each run and he has the services of James Doyle. Godolphin only purchased this horse after that Gimcrack performance and Richard Fahey always does well with this time of horse. He could be tough to beat.
Godolphin are also represented by Log Out Island, who has been busy this season and will run for the seventh time.
He should be OK in the testing conditions and did look good when just ½ length behind Gutaifan last time out.
This two-year-old has rock solid form in the book, but Doyle has got off him to ride the favourite and that could be significant. Log Out Island can be backed at 7/2.
You can get 11/4 about Raucous, who was third behind Ajaya and Ribchester last time out. That was a good performance from William Haggas’ charge and he is proven on this ground with a win at Newmarket on soft going to his name.
The Haggas yard is in cracking for at the moment and this horse could prove to be a decent price.
You then have King Robert at 8/1 and Whitman at 9/1. It’s then 250/1 about Salt Lake Sooty.
For us, the best bet here is Ribchester. He could be open to much more improvement and could be too good for these.
