Friday 11th September, 3.40pm, Doncaster
The fourth race coming from Doncaster on Friday afternoon is the 1stsecuritysolutions.co.uk May Hill Stakes. This is a Group 2 race held over a mile and it is open to two-year-old fillies.
The powerful connections of James Doyle and Saeed bin Suroor team up with the favourite here as Pure Diamond is being offered at 3/1 to take the spoils.
We haven’t seen much from this horse so far, but she was very impressive on second start at Kempton when winning by six lengths.
She was entitled to win that race, but the manor in the way the two-year-old went away from the field was impressive and she could be a very good filly.
It’s quite a short price about this horse though and some will be keen to take her on with 9/2 shot Hawksmoor.
This horse goes for Hugo Palmer and Harry Bentley and was a winner at Goodwood last time out in a good Group 3 race.
This looks to be the natural progression for the filly, but she was sixth on quick ground at Newmarket, so conditions might not be ideal here.
It’s always worth noting when Jim Bolger brings one over from Ireland and he has Turret Rocks here, who was three lengths behind the very impressive Ballydoyle at the Curragh last time.
It looks as though this Irish two-year-old is improving all the time and conditions could be ideal here. The step back up to a mile will have to be a positive as that is the distance she won over on debut.
Richard Hannon has his yard in decent form at the moment and Marenko is being offered at 7/1.
She was second on soft ground last time out and is perhaps best with some cut in the ground given his performances thus far. She’s won to watch in the market.
Gypsy Eyes was a winner on debut at Newmarket for Charles Hills and is a really interesting runner.
She can be backed at 8/1 and could be anything after that first performance.
Light Up Our World has a chance too at 8/1 and it is then 14/1 and over about the rest of the field.
For us, a win bet on Turret Rocks is the best bet here, but we will also be watching the market to see if Gypsy Eyes is fancied to go well.
