Saturday 26th September, 2.35, Newmarket
The Connolly’s Red Mills Cheveley Park Stakes takes place at Newmarket tomorrow and this six furlong encounter is a Group One for two-year-olds fillies.
It’s a superb renewal this year and some really smart fillies will head to post.
When looking at the betting, you can see that Besharah is the favourite at 5/2.
This horse has won her last two and was really impressive in the Lowther at York last time out.
William Haggas’ charge seems to be improving all the time and she is the top rated coming into this one.
Pat Cosgrave seems to get a good tune out of the filly and she is the one to beat you’d think.
However, Illuminate is a filly with bags of talent and some might be taking the 3/1 on her doing the business.
This horse just got the better of Besharah at the July Meeting at Newmarket and has won three races from as many starts.
You’d think there will still be plenty to come from this Richard Hannon-trained horse, but all three of her wins have come on good to firm ground.
It’s likely to be good ground here and still a little bit of cut in the surface, so that’s a question mark, but Illuminate is very talented and should run a big race.
You then have Lumiere at 4/1 and this Mark Johnston filly was quite superb when bolting up on debut on the July Course.
She was then two and a quarter lengths behind Besharah last time out and could be able to get a little closer here with some experience at the track.
However, she might just want it rattling quick as well and we think Lumiere could struggle to get the better of the favourite here.
You can never write off a horse trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore and Alice Springs is a 5/1 shot for the pair.
She has been a little bit outclassed in her last two races, but won on debut and might just enjoy the six furlong trip here. However, she’s probably a bit shorter than she should be.
It’s then 11/1 about Bear Cheek and the rest of the field is at 25/1 and over, with Rebel Surge the 100/1 outsider.
This looks a really good race and we think the form that Besharah has shown recently might just be enough to take the spoils in this one.
