Although the 2,000 Guineas doesn’t take place for another 7 months the smart professional punters are already looking towards the potential winners and taking a plunge in the ante-post markets.
The current ante-post favourite is Camelot, the recent winner of the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster. On that day the Aiden O’Brien two-year-old bay colt was being watched with a view to his chances in the 2,000 Guineas and he didn’t disappointed. There will be sure to be more clues for punters before the big race next May but at present the price of 6/1 looks tempting.
The current second favourite in the ante-post horse betting market is Born To Sea. The John Oxx-trained colt won a listed race at the Curragh last month and runs against six rivals in the Group 3 JRA Killavullan Stakes at Leopardstown this Sunday.
The current best odds on offer for Born To Sea to win the 2,000 Guineas are 10/1 but this will be certain to shorten if he puts in a good show this weekend. Plenty of punters will be tempted to back him at these odds even though the yielding ground at Leopardstown may not be to his favour on Sunday.
Other horses that are being considered by the professional backers include Dabirsim, and Harbour Watch.
Dabirsim is currently available at 10/1 but is as a short as 5/1 with some bookmakers and does have a very reasonable chance of collecting the honours if his development continues in the manner that it has started. The bay colt has won all five of his races the most recent of which was a solid victory in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp against a competitive field.
Harbour Watch is another with a good chance and the current 10/1 looks tempting. The horse has won all three of his races in good style and trainer Richard Hannon is believed to be very happy with the progress that the animal is showing.
So whilst the race may be some time away, there is certainly plenty to consider for punters looking for some very early value horse bets.
